WebI get nice curled shavings after cleaning/squaring the scraper edge followed by a few passes through the burnisher. The guide provides a pretty consistent angle (accommodating scrapers of differing thickness results in a little play), and the burnisher produces a nice hook. I uses a scraper mostly to level up glued edges. Good results.
